Breaking Ground

 
After almost three years of false starts and dead ends; three house designs, more than a couple of contractors and a few bankers later, we broke ground on the driveway to the building spot on the upper forty today.  It follows a draw up as high as possible before making a large sweeping curve to the right to gain the crest of the hillside where the building spot is.  In the photo above you can see the bulldozer below on the county road and the first cut of the new road is just above Erdős.

In less than two hours we had a path working most of the way up to the building site. This is a small bulldozer, and  it is amazing how quickly is can make a passable path.  Did not drive up the cut but we could have.

The driveway must make it to the high ground, on the sunlit hillside to the right of the bulldozer in the photo. You can see the first cut of the driveway headed up the draw to the left of the bulldozer.  It cuts across the draw below the aspens and then cuts up the hill just below the top that is in the sunlight. If you click on the photo You can see a bit of it up near the top.

We're still waiting on final funding  for the full project so it's possible that we'll just end up with an expensive driveway and no house, but even this would be progress.  The views from up on the hill are incredible, see the banner at the top of this blog. The driveway is a real challenge and having it done will mean a huge hurdle has been crossed.
