Looking North
The house was designed in December 2009 and January 2010 via an intense and extremely enjoyable flurry of back-and-forth emails between Penelope, myself and Dan Wheeler of Wheeler-Kearns Architects in Chicago. Dan has been great to work with. I took Dan's drawings and entered them into a brain-damaged CAD system which does allow for 3-D views and rotations of the house. Penelope used the images generated by the system as a basis for these drawings. She printed them and then cut and pasted them onto some stitched panoramic views and then colored them with oil pastels to render the house as we view it.
Looking South
The end of the house is facing almost due east.A garage will be placed behind the house (off the right end of this photo) and will be half buried in the hillside.
If the design process was really enjoyable, you are tremendously fortunate. We were continually finding ourselves baulked by desires that outstripped our means. I love your rusted roof - very West Highland.
ReplyDeleteOh well, yes of course, desires outstrip means here too. It was the interaction with Dan Wheeler through the design process that was so enjoyable. He had many ideas about how to keep the design close to our budget.
