Moldings

We had a friend to dinner last night -- we took her up to the house and she wondered how could you choose colors before living in the space.  Good question Barb!  When we choose the finish color for the interior doors and the moldings we were supplied with a sample in the form of about eighteen 2"x6" pieces of stained wood on a chain.  I was trying to match the door finish from the last house that had custom made solid red oak doors.  We choose the closest color we could. Now the doors are here and they look a bit too orange and the molding seems definitely too orange and there was too much contrast with the floor.  Penelope decided we needed to paint the molding. Dean was able to replace the stained oak with a pre-primed  MDF molding that is ready to be painted.  We decided to match the baseboards and window and non-interior door casings to the wall colors.  For interior doors, we decided to case them with the oak stained to match the door color.  P volunteered to do the painting (and I helped.)
