It's amazing how many things can go wrong.  The wall cabinets have been shoehorned in under the lighting valence, they were ordered to be the wrong height a few inches too tall, so the installers had to (I'm assuming) cut off 2"-3" of the bottoms to get them to fit under the lighting valence. Because of that, the height of the toe area under them is noticeably different from the rest of the cabinets.  You don't stand up to a full height wall cabinet like you do to the sink or range, so functionally, it is not significant.  But the showstopper is that the ovens won't fit in the cabinets.  The opening is supposed to hold double ovens, problem is that the opening is wrong, it is far too small.

Since it will take three weeks to reorder cabinets (we were supposed to be done this week though it looks like it will take another couple of weeks) our builder says he will rebuild them on-site so that the ovens fit.  There are still some worries about the fact that the oven is 30" wide and the middle cabinet itself is 30" wide - so will the cabinet doors on either side of the oven open?

The good news is that after living with the floors for only a few days they look fine to me.  P says it is partially due to the scale of the space -- and I think that's a big part of it. Also, the color is of the wood is good, not too pink like a lot of red oak can be.
